Sony files patent that would combat piracy



a patent that describes a "method for validating legitimate media products" given to Sony Computer Entertainment America emerged earlier this week. Initially introduced in August 2011, a patent on a process that could be a piece of paper that detects as legitimate (non-pirate) by comparing two loading time against a benchmark for the media.

as shown in the diagram above, the patent also describes a secondary validation step in which a serial number and the "user credentials" is compared to "data, such as the manufacturer or as the developer of the media. "Examples of user information may include account names, location, IP address, connection speed of the user and the license number of the product.
