Minecraft won first GameCity ever. The festival of video games based in Nottingham announced the decision at a ceremony on Saturday evening.

The creation of the world's game was against the likes of Portal 2, and the limbo of Pokemon Black in a competition judged by a diverse panel including Tom Watson MP, writer and comedian Charlie Higson, and South Bank Centre, Jude Kelly as artistic director.

The title of sandbox-style PC allows players to construct buildings and artifacts generated landscapes procedure. Originally released in beta in 2009, and now smartphone and Xbox 360 versions are in development.

"We are delighted to have won the first GameCity," said Persson, "especially since the nominees are some of our favorite games recently. It is an honor to be compared to games. "
