Xbox Live users hit by phishing attacks
fraudulent transactions in the accounts of users of Microsoft Xbox Live service and encouragement from EA Sports to deal with fraud
players were affected by a new wave of attacks by pirates -. And this time, more worryingly, has led to their accounts on Xbox Live, Microsoft has closed online gaming service property and therefore, supposedly unhackable
Reportsproliferate Xbox Live users in the control of credit card and bank accounts used to pay for Xbox Live, and the discovery of non-payment is normally for a period of several months, which is used to buy Microsoft Points (the currency of the service that allows users to purchase additional downloadable content, games and objects in the game), which were collected after the purchase of downloadable content for EA Sports - Packs specifically for Ultimate Team their play FIFA 12, Madden and NBA.
This surge in Xbox Live users being scammed has been widely reported as a case of phishing - where people pirates to give details of your account - especially on the first page of the sun. But anecdotal evidence of the board game, it is clear that this is not simple cases of phishing.
There is no doubt that phishing scams targeting Xbox Live accounts are common: their typical modus operandi is to create official-looking Web sites that claim to be giving away Microsoft points, but insist users to enter their data before doing so. But the nature of fraud dictates that people know when they are phishing attacks, and this particular outbreak came to light when the Xbox Live analyzed your bank accounts and credit cards, not when it took over Microsoft free points. As is clearly a new and sophisticated phishing and more sinister - close to piracy - in which the details of key people were not obtained from, but one third
is easy to see why swindlers have chosen to buy packs of EA Sports Ultimate Team with their ill-gotten gains: they are the perfect way to make virtual money for real money. FIFA Ultimate Team, for example, is a fantasy league, as the extension of FIFA 12, in which players try to build teams of world's best players, player cards and traded more or less like Top Trumps, with real money changes hands. It is clear that EA Sports has no way to identify such transactions, otherwise it would be easier to identify tax evaders. We asked the company if you follow the introduction of such operations in the future. Since the company has inadvertently benefited from this scam, it has a clear obligation to conduct a thorough and honest about what happened.
It has been reported in several forums online games and blogs, it is remarkable, being fully tested at this stage, suggesting that the details of Xbox Live user account may have been obtained from EA Sports' online games services, which form an additional layer on top of Xbox Live, EA Sports that fees for some services beyond the Xbox Live. Signs forum even suggested that the lines of Xbox Live support could be a source of con artists posing as ringing in people who want to scam, but it seems to be the level at which phishing is done -. a people who are not phishing
- Microsoft has released an official statement, insisting that the security of Xbox Live was not violated (although there was no credible evidence that he had). He added: "In this case, a number of Xbox Live members appear to have recently been the victim of phishing scams, malware (eg to try to get online personal information such as names of user passwords and card credit is it a legitimate company or individual). online safety of members of Xbox Live is still of paramount importance, that's why I continue to take measures to protect the Xbox Live against the evolving threats. "He went on to detail a number of ways to protect yourself against phishing, which can be found here. Perhaps ironically, the EA Sports site has a page with detailed information showing how the devotees of FIFA Ultimate Team is able to detect and prevent phishing. It was also reported in October that players are having difficulty accessing the EA Sports FIFA 12 servers, even if it is considered to be due to technical failures and errors in the game, then recently published. However, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that the problems coincided with a virus attack.
