Shadows of the Damned – review
Xbox 360/PS3, ? 39.99, cert 18 +, Grasshopper Manufacture / EA
For a game of two Japanese development 's greatest stars created - Shinji Mikami of Resident Evil fame and Suda51, the Killer 7 and No More Heroes created - Shadows of the Damned seems limped into the shops with a surprising lack of fanfare have. This is even more remarkable when you consider that it 's their first collaboration, and the first game either has to be published by Electronic Arts. Perhaps the forces, who feared that due to its makers 'track records, it would be too weird to handle the general public. And indeed, Shadows of the Damned as funny as hell, and just like the average horror movie fan twisted desires.
They play Garcia Hotspur, a demon-hunter, his girlfriend Paula, has been kidnapped and dragged into the underworld of Fleming, a leather-coated demon king with several sets of red eyes. Their mission is simple: to kill your way through the underworld of the work, all demons can occur before Fleming 's Castle, took up his ass and get back to Paula. A Simple Plan proposes exactly that Hotspur isn 't exactly the finer points of existentialism affected and the like.
In fact proves his lack of political correctness in order on a similar level as Duke Nukem, and he has a more-than-willing accomplice in the form of Johnson, an English accent ex-demon \ as a torch works Hotspur 's right hand and turns into a weapon, if you will Hotspur. Johnson is the key to the game: He has three forms, in their base countries as Boner, and the teether Monocussioner known. These are a semi-automatic pistol, a machine gun and a shotgun that shoots explosive skulls, respectively.
Gameplay-wise, Mikami has clearly taken the lead, like Shadows of the Damned feels a lot like Resident Evil, although in this case, you can still move, if you aim it 're - the ability to roll out of the way of incoming attacks is a key mechanic. One of the game 's fun aspects is trying to figure out which elements were developed by Mikami and Suda51. A key mechanic feels like it was conceived together: in times when the demons is a black, oily darkness that constantly regenerate itself drained Hotspur 's health - luckily he has an alternative light-shot, which he has goat-head-lamps can target drive away the darkness, or barrels under pressure light to tear apart nearby demons like bombs. Sometimes there are no goats around head lamps, Hotspur, Johnson as a flashlight for lighting fireworks launchers instead, which made him only a temporary respite from the threat of darkness.
There are several ways in which the dark puzzle offers opportunities as well as many other traditional puzzles. And there are times when turning the gameplay is wild - the 2D loading screen to turn at different points in a 2D side-scrolling shooter (which cleverly retains the dark / light mechanic) and plenty of head- battles, the Resident Evil fans will find comforting familiarity. But the best aspect of the game perhaps, as it is limited to only three weapons that you can update regularly so that they acquire outrageous forces. The Boner may be, for example in the Big Boner, while Johnson is on is connected to a phone-sex line, always a huge object Hotspur hardly objective, but what makes sense, since he standing on the roof of a building and the use This concluded a 50-meter-high demons. The teether developed an auto-aim and Monocussioner finally allows the loading of four skulls, which deal in a rolling bomb that to you essentially demons as bowling pins can be (and is crucial for the later boss battles) to combine.
Shadows of the Damned, then it is possible to both familiar (if you're a fan of Resident Evil, you can 'll love it, and unlike anything you \)' ve ever before, with regard to the bizarre world they played takes place in, that seems to make a disturbing amount of sense. It 's true that at times it feels a little disjointed, the dialogue is clunky and annoying sometimes because there is no online element, one could argue that it' s hopelessly old-fashioned. But if you offer such as the type of gameplay, Resident Evil, there is much joy to you, more or less from start to finish.
Best of Chatterbox: LA Unconfidential
Another compilation of highlights from the Gamesblog chat 'forum'. This time, it seems, in the style of a hard-boiled detective novel. No really.
The hack grasped the report. "What the heck am I going to do with this?" he thought.

Report of agent code-named Sam and Brian.
He drained his glass of bourbon and slammed it on the desk with a bang, immediately opening the drawer and taking out the bottle to pour on another.
"None of this makes any god damn sense, Sam!" Brian shouted and gesticulated angrily towards the brown file in front of his partner, the file with the insignia of the police, the file that was under his office door drawer labeled at earlier that day.
The streetlights looked through the blinds, casting dark bands of shadow across the tiny cluttered office, with its faded pictures from his time in power, and the peeling spell with black letters 'B. Adenhart - Private Eye "on the frosted glass of the door.
Tearing round the last corner before the street where Keith hawked his wares the car almost crashed into an expensive-looking Cadillac. As the two cars passed, the drivers caught each other's eyes, a smile cracked on the other driver's face before they speed away in opposite directions
"Listen!" sam whispered. "There's something coming from that alley"
Witness statement of the day
My first call was some complaints about the Olympic ticketing system to investigate. Killerbee was happy to go on the record:
"Could develops a chaotic system of allocation of tickets for a sporting event was when they tried 'd?"
I 'm not sure who he was complaining when it was not' t much anger to increase among the rest of the community. A resignation sense of expectation. Local (alleged) Mafia boss HereComesTreble put the matter to rest:
"Pret a Manger sandwich is the official supplier of the Olympic Games in London, which says it all really."
The corporate talk gave me a thirst. I swung by a local gathering place for some afternoon refreshment. There was a guy because he hadn 't around much lately. Lazybones I think they call it. In the haze of the bar, he proclaimed:
"Bought myself a frying pan last week. I don't know if I mentioned this. Do you think I have become more boring?"
A tall blonde walked by my office window. I could say it was great when I worked on the second floor. I could tell she was a blonde, because she blossomed all over the chair opposite my desk. But these are things that have to do if a private dick has a secretary that will work long hours for short pay.
Speaking of those who work for short pay and pay a little too much attention to the lady in the chair was now full of useful tips for interviewing. Seems that 7 hours 12 minutes a day of Internet time is not as productive time by many in this country 's captains of industry saw spending.
Turned out I wasn't the only detective for hire looking to fill a blonde shaped hole in my office; Sorbicol had been interviewing some hopeful nineteen-year-olds, obviously to help him out with the extraordinary time he spent on the internet. The louse was keen to pass on the list of psychological profiling questions he had prepared. Not that he prepared them himself, he had some poor child from the HR department prepare them, plausible deniability, children, pay attention, this was the first lesson.
It seemed Sorb was not the only one to find new meat. While the government was trying to tell us we were in a recession, BlueAndWhiteBoy seemed to think it would be okay, its four candidates to fight to the death for the three posts. I could go fight in a war so these men as the country. I was so proud of these two.
I was afraid for the rest of us proles, sitting on the other side of the interviewing desk was our lot.
Having discussed the benefits of truth in exit interviews and the pros and cons of using Linkedin and Facebook, to find dirt on your interview panel, the lady across from me opened her heart to us. She was tempted to answer that perennial question interview: "What is your greatest weakness"
This should have been obvious for a band of social misfits who spent all day every day talking about games, that they then spent all night every night playing. And I'm not talking about healthy games, I'm talking about Blood Bowl and World of Tanks, here. Backstreet dive games, for desperate men.
This is a transcript of testimony.

MadCatz launching 'WarHead' and other fancy Xbox 360 headsets

IGN notes that all three should be out before the end of the year, and none of them should exceed $300 in price. Hey, we just remembered that sometimes headphones cost more than $300! That's an even less appealing thought than putting a "WarHead" on our heads.

Hunt for Deus Ex: Human Revolution 'QR missions'
You can win prizes: The first 1,000 people to find, win 10 codes a topic and find the first 10 people to win all 21 of QR codes Augmented Edition, custom DXHR Headphones, Adam Jensen, action figure and a compression sleeve. But let's be honest, you '\ re not to go and hunt for these things out.
If people get a collective 1 million points before August 23rd though, all participants will get an exclusive Xbox Live Avatar prop (I hope it is a bomb) or PlayStation Home thing. So you might as well register, and let other people do the work for you if you are too lazy, a foreigner, or both -- like me. The app also gives you some wallpapers and lock screens, so it's not entirely useless if you are a fan of the game, but not a fan of scavenger hunts.
Ok, with that out of the way, here 's the right thing. I read "QR-missions" as "VR missions" at first, and got excited by the prospect Assassin's Creed: BrotherhoodVR Missions for style DXHR
Best of Chatterbox: hamster noire
There are two Best Ofs currently lined up for your notalgic pleasure, but as I still have around ten hours of E3 interviews to transcribe, here is just one of them taking us back to May 23-27, as edited by HumofEvil. You may remember this momentous week: LA Noire was out and several Gamesblog regulars had an opinion but it was another gruesome mystery that most Chatterbox regulars were thinking of. Yes, the whole Imogen Thomas enigma had been solved.
The only other option seems to be that, as RustyJames hopes, [redacted] manages to shut Twitter down.
Where are you going with this people?! What the hell happened to incisive wit, political debate, football banter, relationship advice, even cheese or dice blog? Things didn't improve. Best Van Damme film? Retro drinks? 90s Dance? Seriously? Debating the merits of the Shamen or Altern8? []
There were only two recurrent themes of any note is it right to wear socks in bed and the sad news of Serenvikity's pet hamster's death. She mourned on the Monday, announced on the Tuesday, and prompted the following insight from Lazybones:
"This is chatterbox."
"Not to sound too much like me, but Dungeons and Dragons is a role playing game not a board game."
Sandwich Blog
By 1600hrs, the blog had descended into its traditional Friday afternoon one liners, dashed off before the authors retreated to their sordid little grief holes. The only man to offer sensible analysis was StiLteD when he said, "In retrospect i think the 'best of'person today should just copy an extract from an earlier 'best of' that everyone's forgotten by now." Wish I'd thought of that.

E3 2011: BioShock Infinite preview
Then there 's Elizabeth, can open the tears to keep the balance in DeWitt \ tip' s favor. You can in the car, the cover or turrets to open fire on enemies call offer.
DeWitt also has a sky-hook, use it to the rail lines that connect the floating ride Columbia counties can. It works the same way as a one-man-portable roller coaster and allows the player to overtake, and flank opponents, as well as higher scores in the environment or get attacked crowds of fleeing enemies.
Watching all these factors come into play in a pitched battle in the demo to come is an absolutely stunning experience. It 'sa thrill agents DeWitt vault of sky-rail train on Sky Clock and Call-in crows to attack enemies while peppering them perform. In one memorable sequence, lifts DeWitt, a group of enemies into the air with Bucking Bronco, and then materialize Elizabeth has a car to put it all on the edge of a platform.
Of course, all good things come to an end, and the demo ends with Songbird arriving and making off with Elizabeth. In stirring scene, she asks the robot creature-DeWitt 's to protect life, in exchange for their return to the captivity. It 'sa poignant moment that at a deep, layered story that can \ obvious hints' t be summarized in a brief 15-minute demo. But in that short time, it 's obvious that it' s something special about this game. Seems built into a world where every second outgunning pure shooter on either testosterone or intent of the Call of Duty franchise, BioShock Infinite is a beacon in the fog. I can 't wait to get my hand.

Nintendo's new Wii U aims to be a game-changer
Nintendo, which introduced gaming to a new generation of players with the Wii, is aiming to break the mould with its next home console, called the Wii U.
Wii U is the first new home console in five years. The device has graphical abilities roughly on a par with the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. This allows it to run the biggest blockbusters games, which currently only appear on those consoles.
