Elite - the classic space game returns on Kickstarter
David Braben, co-creator of the game Elite mythical space retail research funds to make a long-awaited sequel
If you grew up playing computer games in the eighties, you know Elite, the legendary commercial space simulation written by two students from the University of Cambridge, David Braben and Ian Bell. Now, Braben said that his studio, Frontier Developments, is working on a new title in the series, and is trying to raise £ 1.25 to fund the public site, Kickstarter, to get there.
Kickstarter In his presentation of the game, Braben explains the title occupies less than 22k, when it was released on the BBC Micro in 1984 - less memory than the average e-mail. His ambition is to replicate the experience of this first adventure, but with graphics options and all other major offers modern equipment. Scheduled for release on PC in 2014, players will fight and fight their way through several galaxies, either solo or multiplayer mode.
"Elite: Dangerous is the game I wanted to Frontier for a very long time," says Braben on Kickstarter. "The next game in the series Elite - a space epic amazing with stunning visuals, a incredible gameplay and breathtaking scope, but this time you can play with friends "
- Kickstarter has become a popular way to test the enthusiasm of the fan communities of retro titles. Revolution Software York study has recently been able to fund a new addition to the Broken Sword series of point and click adventure titles through Kickstarter, while the U.S. developer Double Fine has raised more than $ 3 million on the site when he invited fans to engage in a new adventure retro style.
However, the appeal was criticized by some for its lack of solid information on the state of development, but also the tone of the court. Comedian and actor Robert Florence has launched a series of tweets pillory how the project was presented. "I am David Braben. Remember Elite? Give me a million pounds, "said one.
