Talking to Women about Videogames: They can't see the art

[talking to women of video games
is a series where Jonathan Holmes talks to various people who are women on the biggest new game week for any reason.

I think the meaning can be found deeply contrasting perceptions on both sides of the argument. Talking to someone who does not believe that video games are an art form can feel like talking to a Predator (the "Arnold Schwarzenegger, who hate" the variety, the "catch" a variety). It is as if your eyes do not see the same world as mine is. When I see a face, or a sunset, you could see a swirl of colors with many random, or amorphous stains. This leads to trying desperately to convinced that there is a bubble setting in the west, while I'm yelling at them about the fantastic symphony of colors exploding in the sky right in front of us. We are both convinced that what we see is reality, and that the schism between the two realities us crazy.
I found the best way to deal with situations is how do you take the point of view. From there you can team up mentally with the person you "debate" with, and try to guide your way of seeing. You can not always share your point of view, but to participate with them, can at least share the same reality for some time, and that can lead to good things. Then look at the reasons why some people can not see that video games are an art form, and help them get back on track!

This is a big part of what keeps people from seeing the game as an artistic medium. Video games can be so many things at once is easy to get caught up focusing on one aspect, the art of losing potential in the process. Most games work like a combination of art, pornography, education, and competition, all in one, and pornography is often most striking in the four.
talked in the past about how I think all forms of communication can be divided into four categories: art (call to our humanity), pornography (use our instincts lower animals), competition (the determination of our relationship "value" by comparing our skills can be measured objectively to others), and education (learning and / or teach information, techniques, and / or skills.) Briefly reviewing the idea again, because of factors deep into everything that happens here.
By my definition, the "humanity" is something that appeals to the frontal lobe structures that share the most unique human beings. I'm talking about the interpretation of the comedy of the absurd, the concept of high experience empathy, agonizing years of disappointment with oneself and others, the ability to appreciate the beauty is not sexualized , and a host of other brain functions that only beings appear to have fully human. Art is anything you need your brain and start doing it, through these processes, while reflecting the psyche of the artist along the way.
course, sometimes the art is of natural origin. Remember when I talked about how some people only see the places where I see a sunset? I was actually talking about my cat. My cat does not like the sunsets. Why would I? Sunsets do not help you survive, reproduce, or knows his place in the social order. Therefore, cats are of no use to them. Cats may include pornography (usually eat mice or other cat porking), education (in general learn to catch mice or waste in the sand of imitation), and competition (generally centered on who will get to eat for a mouse or a trash can in the imitation sand first), but they do not understand art. One could even say that this is the definition of art - cats do not like it

What matters is what happens after that we took. Most people first noticed
No More Heroesbecause the idea of ??killing a bunch of guys with a lightsaber just take it on. .. alpha male instincts. From there, it's the comedy of self-depreciation of the series, the symbolism and the surreal parody / homage to action games and players that make people love it. They came for the porn, but stayed for art. Thus, No More Heroes
not so different from theMona Lisa , or any of another table which casts some division in the center of the image. Catch their eyes with their breasts, then continue your attention to the symbolism and art.
If "art" da Vinci when he does, so why not video games can do that too?
They believe that art can be interactive
Speaking of
Mona Lisa
Mona Lisa is eye contact with you. It's all about how the painting is made. Not that the Mona Lisa always looks you in the eye. Does the paint is designed to keep
thataa new
your AA> eyes.
Design game is no different. Most games are designed to move the eyes of the players (and the rest of your nervous system), so that the designer wanted to leave, if the player knows it or not. Is it video games, there are many levels, many more potential for interaction beyond the two dimensions, and not time-based plans of drawing and painting. The games use as incentives, objectives, outcomes and scenarios to guide players through experience and visual design and other signals to move. Painting and game design are both on the construction of the same. Game design has only a toolbox to build much larger.
For some reason, some people, and even some game designers) believe that video games can be art, because they use these techniques to further guide the player / viewer. This is a point of view improper, close, which can be used to limit how people live games that the designers and players. These additional tools should not undermine the legitimacy of games as an art form. In all cases, the instruments used an art form, the more potential you have to move. They think that games are toys
