2011: The year of hidden change
Despite a series of high quality games of 2011 was a sense of déjà vu with the console itself and dominating franchise
This year saw the highest quality games released in a short space of time than any other year. He provided the FIFA and Call of Duty for the souls Skyrim socially competitive adventurer dark introspection, and Deus Ex: Human Revolution and Portal 2 to show that writing can also be an intrinsic part of a game like design
gave us Zelda: Skyward Sword and LittleBigPlanet 2 for our inner child and Mario Kart and Pokemon Black and White for our true self. We have had great success with more confidence in Uncharted 3 games, simulation motor sport the most accurate and passionate Forza 4, and the choreography of land more brazenly Just Dance 3 (which, incidentally, sits like a game Dark Souls staff years).
Although this year has been defined by a pervasive sense of boredom and tangible for many of us. If you've played for a decade or more, you're used to an industry that is barely recognizable from one year to another, obsessed with technology changing so rapidly it is difficult to keep pace. But we had the console itself and the same franchise that dominates the living room for five years, and outside of the Nintendo Wii next year or there is nothing new on the horizon. This year has been excellent for their quality, of course - but there is a feeling that was low on creativity, and the lack of updates
is an instinct that contradicts the truth of the situation. The change is still ongoing, just look elsewhere for. Although the games themselves this year have reduced their rate of change, how we talk about them is changing. We saw evidence of fatigue endemic to certain aspects of the press and game developers the readers who are bored of fixing the industry in the results of any revision to an interesting critique.
GamesMeanwhile, 2011 saw the word spread more and more away from the relatively remote corners of the internet that used to occupy, no opening in the average age of the bastions of television , radio and newspapers. We even had probably the first novel by a great success with the culture of video games in his heart in a reader ready Ernest Cline. And the game of conversation is not so dominated by men nerds, it becomes more balanced
More worrying, however, 2011 marked the point where the gaming industry really stratified. In the current situation at the end of this year, is big-budget AAA games, success and moving indie titles and few between. Mid-level of education - the kind that still rely on the big publishers to sponsor the games and the development of funds - are in big trouble. A series of closures of study in the UK and abroad, Bizarre Creations for Codemasters Guildford, proves it. Unless you're a small developer agile and adaptable self-publishing games for the iPhone or a big team working on a mega-franchise for a major publisher, the times are very difficult.
Excellent- Microsoft, initially looking for Xbox Live Arcade, has buried its chain of independent game so deep in the new Xbox Dashboard will be a small miracle, if a set of Xbox Live Arcade already sold more than 100,000 copies again. Sony seriously damaged confidence in the PlayStation Network service after the scandal piracy April and mid-level talent that has made games such as education and Rochard Outland suffered. Steam, for its part, though infinitely more flexible than any of these services, still has its problems, and visibility remains a major problem for developers who publish their work on the PC.
- The sad thing is that it is quite normal, memorable games, as the home Bodycount this year or staying off the network due to this stratification - also the most games original, there are lovely creative at this level between the study of great success and a man. Most of my favorite era PlayStation 2 Crazy - Gitaroo Man, Amplitude, Steambot Chronicles, and all that Suda 51 has ever done - simply could not exist today. They never did. We do not see the strangest, riskiest games outside the PC.
- There is nothing wrong with any of Angry Birds and Modern Warfare 3, but if this trend continues, it is not impossible that we will soon live in a world where those who are the only type of game at all. I have faith, however, that things will change, and developers and publishers to find new ways to get the most interesting things in front of us.
despite appearances, despite the prevalence of s 2, 3 and 4, after the game titles, things are changing rapidly. It seems that 2012 will be who can adapt.
